Image: Millenium Stadium, CardiffCap ital city Cardiff is the setting for the Millennium Stadium, o ne of the world’s most impressive sporting arenas.

The Welsh capital has been awarded the title of European City of Sport 2009. The title means Cardiff now ranks as a major centre for sporting excellence and good practice.

Although home to Welsh rugby, the stadium has also, for six years, staged the final of the FA Cup, the world’s oldest soccer competition.

With its pioneering retractable roof it is also the scene for many major pop and rock concerts, international boxing and motor sports.

Other major sporting facilities across Wales cater for cycling, swimming, ice hockey, athletics and horse racing.
