Niche Vehicles, Design & Development
The growing appetite for niche vehicles, and for the potential for aspects of their design to be absorbed by mainstream manufacturers, is currently focusing global attention on this fast-growing sector. Some of the most novel and transferable concepts are being developed right here in Wales.
Wales has the full life-cycle of technology development available to support the niche vehicle industry, from concept, test, and design through to manufacture – all backed by leading edge skills, and a diverse, well established supply chain.
- The Narrow Car Company, Abercynon, is developing a range of "free leaning" vehicles offering superb mobility and functionality as well as addressing the key issues of efficiency and emissions.
- The Connaught Motor company, Llanelli, is developing petrol/electric hybrid engines and building them into the world's first performance hybrid sports coupé.
- Stevens Vehicles, Cwmbran, have designed and developed a small electric zero emissions vehicle and have set up in Wales to manufacture and develop the range.
- Caerbont Automotive Instruments manufactures high quality specialist automotive instruments such as dials, tachometers and sensors for clients including Aston Martin, AC Cobra and London Taxis.
